There is a kind of joy that comes from smashing the hell out of pieces of metal....
I love making jewelry. And I love the rush of satisfaction that comes from trying on a brand new piece, fresh out of the tumbler. At night, I dream about big, stunning, silver hoop earrings. On the subway, I get lost in revelries involving chunky mixed metal necklaces.
Queens Metal is my rallying cry to women everywhere. I want my jewelry to remind women that jewelry should be fun, outrageous, and joyful. I want them to feel empowered when they try on something from the Queens Metal collection.
I started working with metal while in school studying a totally unrelated subject. By the time I had earned my degree, I was having way too much fun with my one-woman jewelry enterprise to return to the 9-5 world. Now I spend my days at my work bench, in a pair of ratty jeans, listening to NPR and New Orleans jazz. My arms are usually covered in burn marks and the grime under my fingernails can rival any mechanics. Despite the long hours, and the fact that I haven’t been able to get a manicure in five years, I love what I do and I wouldn't have it any other way!
